Hi all! I just started back to school myself. Nice to see so many others in the same boat. I'm studying to be an interpreter for the deaf. It's a 2 1/2 year program at community college. My first class was Wednesday. Felt great to be back out in the world!!
Now if I can just get through it and be sane when I'm done!

Good job! :clap
Did anything in particular inspire this choice of major?

I've always had an interest to learn, but never the time with 4 kids. I think it will be quite rewarding and there is such a shortage of interpreters.
I never could figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Last year the our local community college began this program and I immediately knew that I would enroll. It feels so good to be putting my mind back to work again!

Thanks Lasagna! I'm off to read the other threads so I can see what you all are majoring in.

Congrats and welcome! :clap That sounds like a very interesting thing to get into. Good luck. :D
I actually looked into a similar program here last year- it was a 2 year program. The students do practicums in some of my classes- they interpret for deaf students, while a more advanced interpreter helps them out- very interesting!
Nice to "meet" you!

One a month we have to attend ASL club to log in field hours. We also have to accumulate a certain amount of hours beyond that working in the deaf community. For the last 6 months we have work in a deaf school.
I'm also going to look into possibly transferring to a 4 year program when I am done. Not many colleges/universities offer it, so it will depend on how far it would be.
Nice to "meet" you too!
