View Full Version : Cloth diapers, and Yeast Infections
My DD has had an ongoing yeast infection for a few weeks now. The nurse at my Ped's office said to bleach her dipes to kill the yeast. I have always heard no bleach on the diapers.
Should I bleach them, and use disposables until this clears up?
Help please.

Well, without knowing exactly how you wash them, I don't know if I could say yeah just go ahead and bleach. Do you use vinegar, are you making sure to rinse them thoroughly? How about a stint in the sun?
Also, tea tree oil is excellent for helping with yeast. I always throw a few drops in my wipes recipe and we very rarely get any red bottoms in this house. You might try mixing some with a good diaper rash oil, Calendula, to help clear up the existing yeast and then use it in your wipes to keep the yeast away.
I do a cold rinse, then wash on hot with ½ the amount of all free, with a scoop of oxyclean. I then do two more cold rinses. I do line dry them weather permitting.
I do not normally use vinegar, but I will try that. Also the tea tree oil :) How much should I put in the wash of both?

When we were battling thrush I read that you should wash everything in vinegar. So I bet it would work on your diapers. I washed all our sheets, clothes, bras etc. in it. It finally cleared.

I'd toss in 1/2 c of vinegar in the rinse of your dipes. As far as the wipes, I usually put about 4-6 drops of tea tree oil in the solution. Tea tree oil is strong, so it doesn't take much.

When my 20mo old was very small, he had constant yeast infections in the neck area as well as the groin. I added bleach to the didies, during the hot wash. We ended up needing an over the counter med to get rid of the infection but I hope yours clears up with the bleach treatment.

i use a little bleach... a little bit seems to kill the tiny bugs..and HOT water.
then i turn on the cycle and wash them again to wash the BLEACH out ..i also have an extra rinse cycle i sometimes use.
i have heard of using vinager,, but i don't trust it.

I vote for the vinegar. I used it diluted on my nips for thrush. I suffocates the yeasties!:militant
