The bed question was raised on the ME, and I was wondering how you toddler proof your home, once they were no longer in the crib?

Did you put a gate at their bedroom door? Gate all dangerous exit's but the parent's room?

What has worked best for your home?

With our older dd we just closed the door. We did try a lock on the outside so we could leave it open a crack but so that she couldn't get out (one of those chain thingy's) and it was useless. We basically just wasted our money.

We started using the baby monitor again and this way we heard her if she got up.

With this one, I think we'll close the door also, but she's a lot taller and will most likely be able to open the door, so I think we'll put a gate across the outside of the door.

There was a 3 yo in our area who got out of the house one night and the child services took the kid for a few days. I was outraged when I read what happened. It was the families first night in a new house and they did not have time to fix the back door lock, so the little girl was able to just get out. They gave the girl back to her family once the story hit the press, but geesh, it could happen to anyone! The parents said she never even went out of her room before. I guess being in a new house just freaked her out a bit.

We tried the gate thing, but ended up tripping over it too many times. Now, we close her door and listen on the baby monitor. Actually, I should rephrase that. I listen, since you could detonate a bomb next to dh's head and he'd NEVAH hear it! :lol
