This weekend one of my grandpa's and his wife came over to my parents house. We went to visit.
First my grandpa, who we never see and hardly know, said 'That baby is TOO heavy!'
I said no she is not, she is a breastfed baby and VERY healthy.
He came back with You need to stop feeding her so much.
I said Her doctor is comfortable with her weight. Many breastfed babies a re chubby and then get very lean when they get older. (She is 19lbs. 5oz. at 8 months)
After we left they said something to my parents about how OBESE babies grow up to be OBESE adults. :wugh My mom asked him well what baby do you know that is obese? And grandpa's wife piped up 'That baby is FAT! She is going to be a FAT person when she gets older!' My mom told them 'She is NOT fat, at all. She is breastfed and she will grow out of her chubbiness.'
The funny thing is both of these people are very very overweight. Like they really have room to talk about my "FAT" baby. Which I hope the next time they see her she is skinny as a stick just to prove them wrong!

How annoying. Wonder what they'd have said about my 21.5lb 6 month old ds (who is now definitely not fat at 4 years old.) Did you ask if they were unusually fat babies?

You are breastfeeding. Your baby takes exactly what she needs to take. Those people are clueless. I wouldn't even be upset about that.

(okay, I might be a little upset, but I'd try not to be, cause they were clueless)

You do create all your fat cells as a baby and they just expand or deflate the rest of your life. So there is a little truth in the thought that fatter babies may have a harder time staying thin as adults.
BUT!!!! Babies are supposed to have fat! And I seriously doubt that a breastfed baby is too fat. They need those fat stores. When they get more mobile, they will quickly shed the excess fat.
Our society is so paranoid about fat. My ex-step sister lost her hair because she didn't eat enough fat. Teenage girls are doing all sorts of damage to their bodies trying to be fat free. A friend of mine was so thin that her body didn't start menstruating. She had to induce menstruation at age 19.
I would have whipped my boob out and squirted them in the eye and then kicked them in the shin.
Well, ok, maybe not.

Your dd doesn't sound heavy or abnormal in any way. My ds is 7 mos old and is almost the exact same weight and he doesn't look fat at all. Those people are crazy if they think your dd is fat. I would've been pissed too.

When I took DS in for his Vacc's, (4 mths, 16lbs 2oz) The nurse said to me, "He's a very healthy breastfed baby, don't let anyone tell you he's fat."
I thought :wtf I didn't say anything about anyone telling me that. So I figure it must be common for people to say this so she figured she would reassure me before someone made me worry about it.
I think it's very rude and ignorant personally.
people are fucking morons. my dd is only 17 lbs at 10 months and people are all the time saying she's fat, saying, "oh, you don't miss any meals, do you?" to her, etc. especially older people.
it does bother me because my daughter is at the very bottom of the growth charts, so it's a pretty unhealthy attitude to say she's a fat baby.
but fuck them. because my baby is "fat" i don't have to completely freak out when she gets sick and will barely eat for a week, and that makes me feel good. she's supposed to have fat rolls -- they keep her healthy and safe in the event of illness. and this isn't the 70s where cereal was introduced at 2 weeks and cow's milk was given instead of formula and stuff. a fat breastfed baby is just a healthy kid. keep giving your dd as much breastmilk as she wants and if you see them again and they say she's fat again, just smile and say, "yes, don't you love how she resembles you? of course she'll lose HER baby fat, but for now the two of you look very much alike!"

Who the fuck calls an infant fat I could see it if she was one of those kids that end up on Maury because they are 75pound one year olds. But geeez my dd could have eaten your dd at that age she was 25or 26 pounds. She is 30 lbs at 21 months and 3 feet tall and a string bean. these people are why the limited too gives pre teens scales :puke

Morons! If it were my relatives, I'd tell them they have to cut out that crap if they ever wanted to see the child again.
Your baby sounds like a perfectly healthy, happy baby.

Thanks you guys! Fern :lmao So true!!! I know she isn't fat. It just irks me that people really are so ignorant. Of course these are the same people that told me I needed to give her water because breastmilk wasn't enough to keep her hydrated. :wugh

its sad how ignorant people are and how everybody has their idiotic little ideas that they busybodily share with you completely unsolicited. I thought it was bad while I was pregnant, I am astonished to see how much worse its gotten now that hes outta my belly
they are stupid and wrong, if you're breastfeeding your baby is getting the right amount of the best possible food for him.
try not to listen to them or anyone whose opinion you don't trust beforehand.

Idiots Idiot Idiots!!!!
GRRR....why do people feel the need to comment on shit like that? I had one "fat" breastfed baby...who became a string bean when she was mobile, she's 5 and a bean pole of a kid now...
And I have a very thin baby who is pretty long...so she looks even thinner.
I got it from both ends, I had a fat kid now I"m starving my kid.
I even got told that "that's the problem with breastfeeding, you have to feed them too much to make sure they are healthy, with formula you can measure it out and only feed them a certain amount." :good doG

Fat babies rock. Fat is good! My baby was a serious chubnut, about 25 pounds at one year. And now 6 months later he is only 2 pounds heavier and he has grown taller... Their growth plateaus once they start moving around more.
Breastfeeding is perfect.

Everyone always tells me how big Kevin is. At 5 months he was 16lbs 10oz and 26" - our ped said he was perfect and I'm inclined to agree :love I hate it when people say things like that, it's so rude and wrong!

I :love my fat, chubby, healthy baby. :love to yours too ;)
I think it's great when we go to his visits and his doc says, "Looks like breastfeeding is going well." He's chubby, he's got a lot of rolls, and I love all of it. :)
It's amazing how ignorant people can be.

It's so interesting what people will say. It's also interesting how different babies grow. At 14MO, DD is just now getting to be 20lb. and is fine. Your baby is fine also. People just need to shut their traps sometimes.

Well...all 4 of my children were BIG birth babies...and remand big until they started crawling.
#4 DD is 8 months 26 pounds. Also very long for her age. #3 DD was the same and is now almost 3 and still 28 pounds.
I would be more worried about the 3 year old who is extremely heavy...not the baby. Your gramps is clueless!

Dumb shits. Your baby is a BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY, WONDERFUL bf baby.
These people sound like they have serious fat issues. They shouldn't take it out on you and your baby.
Btw, DD is 20 pounds and she'll be 6 mo. this Monday. Her doc's always said that her weight is off the charts, but she's healthy, happy and fine. (And putting a baby on a diet is stupid, unhealthy and ludicrous. His words. Can you tell I love her doctor?)

Fat, chubby babies with tons of rolls ROCK! Since ds was born I've people telling me how "fat" he is. He came out at 10 lb. 6 oz. and by the time he was 2 1/2 mos. he was 19 1/2 lbs. He topped out at about 23 lbs. at his 6 mos. visit and since then has maybe gained a pound or two.
His first doctor told me he was too fat at his 8 week checkup and told me to feed him every 4-6 hours. Not knowing any better I tried it and my milk almost disappeared. Luckily now I have a great ped. who is very pro-breastfeeding.
DS was huge for many months, but he's always been happy and healthy. Screw what other people say...good for you for giving your baby girl what's best!

Amen! dd was 25 lbs at 8 months and plateaued there for nearly a year. Now those same dickheads call her too skinny.
Trust your heart.
Fuck those fuckers.

Twits. Direct them to sites that cite research such as this: http://www.drgreene.com/21_969.html.
And give that fat baby of yours a kiss from me. :kiss
My dd was thirty pounds at one year - but now, at five and a half, she is only 40 lbs - keep nursing on demand, and it will work itself out.
(I am assuming that the baby's diet of solid foods is healthy stuff)
