Hey, does anyone know any good books on teaching toddlers about strangers? The only one I've heard about is the Berenstain Bear Stranger Book--which sounds pretty good, except some of the reviews there said there are better books available (the berenstain book apparently doesn't cover inappropriate touching.)

Good topic, I was going to ask about teaching kids the "tricks" that can be used to lure them away.....any ideas there too?

I found one article, so I'm posting the site here before I delete the email it came in: http://www.parenting.com/parenting/article/article_general/0,8266,7525,00.html

I hope others have some ideas!

That reminds me. I need to go have that discussion with my 8 yr old. I try to go over it a couple of times of year just to "remind" her. I'm so freakin paranoid.

And speaking of such "talks" has anybody given the sex talk?
If so, at what age?
Who initiated it?
How did you go about it?
Did you use a book? I have one conveniently "lying around" geared toward children her age. Just in case she is too embarrassed to ask me, then she at least has something to fall back on.

I almost had a talk with dd last year when she asked me how chickens came from egss. I had to sit and think about it and by the time I finally got ready to explain it, she didn't care anymore.

I know this sounds retarded and I should know as I have lived around chickens, but I was not sure of the exact fertilization process for poultry. I don't know if it's before or after the freakin egg is laid. And I asked other people this. People who RAISED chickens, and I'll be damned, they didn't know either. So I lost that opportunity.

don't remember the name of the one I used buy we got it from the library. Something about private. I used it when he was 3 and began with we pee outside when no one is around cause the penis is private. my ds was thrilled with this idea and when he went to the dr last month, ds told the dr his penis was private! it was funny, cept the dr didn't think so when he had to repeated ask for permission to look at it!

kool we have a book lying around that is wonderful. it's called See How you Grow by Dr. P. Pearse. It shows a baby growing under the belly flaps, the mommy has the baby and then nurses. Also shows how kids grow, hair and nails growing, etc. It's really cute and you can add as much detail as you need.

About the chickens, the egg is made, fertilized (if the rooster does the dirty deed), shell formed, and egg laid. My dad was a chicken farmer long ago.

Thank you bite me. Will look into that book.

And it's good to know how that egg actually does get fertilized. I felt like an idiot.
