Shit I have another plugged duct..... these suck! This is the second one I have had in two months...... well at least I don't have thrush again on top of it.

I am just bitching and moaning....it is one of those mornings.

Plugged ducts suck. I used to get a ton of them. Like one a week for months. I think I've had something like 30 altogether. I'm not entirely sure why, though one lactation consultant I spoke to told me that some women have either ducts that are a bit too small or milk that is a bit too fatty or both.

Anyway, sounds like you are just venting and not specifically requesting advice, but can I give you some anyway? Besides all the normal stuff to get rid of plugged ducts, are you taking a lecithin supplement? The gel caps are a great way to do it so you don't have to taste the nasty stuff. Both my LLL leader and my LC recommended it, and it really helped cut down the frequency of my plugs. The LLL leader told me that plugs are actually inflamed ducts and that lecithin is some sort of anti-inflammatory?? Also explains why ibuprofen seems to sometimes get rid of them for me, not just ease the pain.

Anyway, if you already know all this stuff, please ignore me. ;)

I didn't know about that, thanks! Anything to help. I never had any issues with my older dd when she was nursing, this time I have had thrush like 5 times and two plugged ducts.

Both plugs have been in the same spot so maybe I have a smallish duct there??? anyway my dd is 8 mos and happy and healthy so I really can't bitch too much, but ouchie I wanted to bitch a little!

I found the only thing to help me out when i got plugs was to let dd nurse with her chin pointing to the ouchie part...moist heat compresses sort of helped too.

Don't know if you already know this stuff, but it was very helpful to me:

Ditto on the lecithin supplements. They can really help when reoccuring plugged ducts are troublesome.
Pointing baby's chin to the plug is also a very effective way of releasing the plug.
Hot compresses, hanging your breasts in a large bowl of warm water, warm showers, breast massage, ect will help you get the plug out sooner.

I'm prone to them as well, and everyone has already given the suggestions I would give. I hope it's better for you soon, they are pretty painful.
