In order to make this place an even better resource for nursing moms, I think it would be great if we all posted our favorite bf-ing links. Maybe places where moms can go to get information on safe meds to take while bf-ing, sites where they can print out breastfeeding information for those family members who may not be supportive, or anything you think is interesting. I would appreciate any and all help with this! TIA!

We are trying to build up our web links section on home pages, for a one-stop resource of Sybermoms approved links. Feel free to post all your links where ever you want, but try to help us include those links on in the web links section also. That way when threads get buried, we can find the links easily.
If you want Terramommy to post the links for you, just PM her. :)

The breastfeeding multiples message board at parentsplace is fast paced and where I got the best and most timely advice in regard to nursing twins. I tried bf.com and LLL but the info on multiples was pretty standard fare and mainly focussed on tandem feeding different aged children. The parentsplace board gets more traffic.

The American Academy of Pediatrics published their policy statement Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk (RE9729) in 1997: (Full text: http://www.aap.org/policy/re9729.html)
Exclusive breastfeeding is ideal nutrition and sufficient to support optimal growth and development for approximately the first 6 months after birth. Infants weaned before 12 months of age should not receive cow's milk feedings but should receive iron-fortified infant formula. Gradual introduction of iron-enriched solid foods in the second half of the first year should complement the breast milk diet. It is recommended that breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter for as long as mutually desired.
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has a "Breastfeeding (Position Paper)": (Full text: http://www.aafp.org/x6633.xml)
all babies, with rare exceptions, be exclusively breastfed for about six months.... If the child is younger than two years of age, the child is at increased risk of illness if weaned."
The World Health Organization/United Nations Children's Fund (WHO/UNICEF) published the Innocenti Declaration in 1990: (Full text: http://www.waba.org.br/inno.htm)
As a global goal for optimal maternal and child health and nutrition, all women should be enabled to practise exclusive breastfeeding and all infants should be fed exclusively on breastmilk from birth to 4-6 months of age. Thereafter, children should continue to be breastfed, while receiving appropriate and adequate complementary foods, for up to two years of age or beyond.
