Can people can scholarships out of high school? I mean can a 35 year old get a scholarship? Or are those reserved for people graduating from high school.
What does it take to get a scholarship?

I have a small one worth 1000.00. I was awarded it by my current uni. when I transfered in without every applying for it. Mine was based on my GPA. I would check with your college to see what they offer and how they are earned.
I have never looked into programs not related to my specific school to see if it's easy for non-trad's to earn one. Maybe a google seach would provide some information.
There are a lot of scholarships out there for non-traditional students who aren't straight out of high school. Check out www.fastweb.com and others I cant think of right now. There's also specific scholarships depending on what field you are going into, so if there's a national organization for your field check them out too.
I have applied on Fastweb, and also check with your university. My uuniversity has a website where you anser a couple of dozen questions, and then they offer scholarships if you meet certain criteria- for example, they have them for non-trad. students, or students who are vietnam vets or children of vietnam vets, or to people going into specific majors, etc.
Unfortunately, I have found that most scholarships also are need based first- but apply anyway. If no one need based applies, they usually give them to the next person in line.

Yeah, there are all sorts of scholarships and grants out there. Some can be harder to find.
I actually got an unexpected $400 last month, just for being a "member" of a program at the school. I thought it might be pointless to join, but thought it couldn't hurt. All the program was is a room with computers that only the members can use, a couch, and sometimes, they got actual professors to do tutoring. I signed up, utilized those services, and next thing I know, I have a $400 check in my hands. That almost covered my books this semester :)
So there's all kinds of money in even the most peculiar places.
