WTF

Posted 08-08-2013 at 09:27 PM by turkeyjoe

So we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express near the KC Airport. It let me down in so many ways in failing to live up to the Amarillo experience. Not necessarily bad ways, just little ways. There was a notice posted in a laminated sheet about unloading your vehicle, removing ALL valuables, even loose change and sunglasses. And, if you place valuables in the trunk, do not do where you are able to be observed doing it. So, I figure they may have a bit of a crime problem. We had a window smashed in D.C....

Home Run

Posted 08-07-2013 at 06:08 PM by turkeyjoe

We are back in KC. Tomorrow we return to Chicagoland around noon, pick up dd from old people sitting and head home to see the dogs. Not much to say about a drive from Amarillo to Kansas City. Ds and I returned to Oklahoma Joes.
We also had an marathon game of Marco Polo.
Tomorrow I will post some pictures and a creepy thread of creatures I photographed in Arizona.

We left AZ this morning and headed east. We gassed up in Winslow, Arizona and there is a corner where they have a statue of a guy standing on a corner with a flat bed Ford on the curb. (If you are not old google "Takin it Easy" lyrics) We were on more of a curve on exit 234 in BFE, NM when Capital One told me there was a suspicious charge on my credit card. I thought my wanderlust had triggered fraud flags to spring willy nilly, but this was an odd charge I did not make. So they canceled...

Arizona

We dropped down through Fe, ABQ, and across 40W to Flagstaff. There are few places where you can see a long freight train from front to rear as it moves along on its journey. We found an In and Out Burger and hiked amongst some cool rocks. We will probably hit Sedona tomorrow.

Nary a vagina anywhere

We went sandboarding at the dunes. Hiking in sand sucks. I have sand in my wallet, ears. pockets, teeth. We did the Zapata Falls hike nearby and that was fun. We took 64 through the Carson National Forest and stopped at Echo Ampitheater and Ghost Ranch, where Georgia O'Keefe hung out and painted landscapes. (hence the title) It poured a few times today. Flash flood warning poured. And out here you see the lightning strike the ground.
