Testing for Lead

This maybe the wrong place to post this but I needed some help and was hoping I could find it in here.

DD was at the doctor last monday for her 2yr well child visit. They drew blood(from her arm) and tested her iron and lead levels. It appears that her lead levels went from a 2 last year to a 12.

We are bringing all 3 kids in this week to have blood drawn from them to see if it's affecting all of them. I'm thinking maybe DH and myself should be tested as well.

Does anyone know of a home kit you can use or do you have to have someone from the outside come in and test?

I would check with your local county health dept. Are you in the states or Canada? I live in the US and our health dept is responsible for testing, follow up, teaching, and helping you find the source of the lead poisoning (perhaps assisting with clean up). I would definately check with public health people to see if you can defray some of the costs of this.

Hope everything is going ok!

You can get a home testing kit at a home center like Home-Depot. One of the PSAs on the radio here stresses the lead in window sashes/sills. If your home is older, everytime you raise or lower a window you could be making dust that then gets blown into the room. They say to wipe your window sills often.
I would get info from your local health department regarding your next steps.
Sorry you little one tested high. Hope everyone tests out ok.
