My ds will be 7 soon, and has started asking for an allowance. I told him I had to think about it, and would let him know. If you give an allowance to your 7 y/o, how much do you give? What do they have to do for it?

I'm really not sure how I feel about giving him one, because I hadn't really expected him to ask so soon. He has chores he has to do as part of the family, but should he get paid to do them?

Yeah my dd is 8 and has been getting an alllowance (sporadically) for about a year. She has a list of requirements to meet to get it. This includes doing things, when asked, without arguing about it. ie. Put this in the trash, help mom set the table...etc.

If she misses three of the things or more that week she does not get an allowance. We give her 2 dollars a week. Be weary though...they talk about what they get for allowance, at school, and we have been asked for an increase many times. I refused each time because she doesn't do enough to earn it.

We worked on the list together, which helps. That way it isn't too much or too little.

Yep on the fridge on one of those erase boards, so we can alter it if need be.

I have also heard of families were there are a set number of duties that have to me done because you are part of the family but if you do extra chores then you earn allowance. Something like every day you have to make you bed, set the table, ect but if you do extra like vacume your room = $x, Sort socks = $x.

Not sure which we will do because DS is only 3.
