My dh is taking a Transition Assistance Program seminar this week. Yesterday, he was told that those on active duty who never registered with the selective service can have benefits withheld.
Many men on active duty just fill in the "active duty military" circle on the selective service registration card. This is legal and they are not required to actually register but many veteren benefits (including VA loans) and government jobs can be withheld if they have not offically registered. Apparantly, there is a seperate form to fill out for those that are now to old to register. Basically it just says that you were exempt from registration. Simple but important process. DH's instructor said that the problems usually arise after seperation from the military when applying for government jobs.
I had never heard this and thought maybe that I should share in case others were in the dark.
