Need ideas for sailor's halfway boxes

Hi all. I am going to be sending some halfway boxes to all the single sailors in my husbands division when they go to sea and I need some ideas of the types of stuff to send.

So far I have:

crossword books
beef jerkey
candy
yoyo's
cards
joke/riddle books

Anyone got any other suggestions?

DH would always send me home baked cookies that the children had decorated. Those were always my favorites.

If any of them are readers, maybe a book or two that they could pass amongst themselves. :shrug

I always send Dh candy and peanuts. I sent him some fudge a few weeks ago. I was assured that if I froze and made sure if was packed in packing peanuts that it would arrive ok. He hasn't gotten it yet. It better be ok!

My Patronus is on strike.

A pack of white T-shirts, if you know their sizes, or socks.

You've got a pretty good list going though & great suggestions.

Are any of them women? If so some shower gel, sample shampoos, lip gloss, foot lotion, some stuff to make them feel pretty.

Everyone could use Chap Stick, mints, Little Debbie single wrap snacks, if it isn't too much money, one of those disposible cameras is nice.

A good way to send cookies is cleaned out pringles cans. They don't get Click here to enlarge and they stay nice and fresh.

That is a very good idea! I will probably do that. I hope they don't get excited thinking they got pringles and get cookies instead. I started putting the packages together today, I need more ideas if you got them. Thanks!

You can use them for ice cream cones too. Totally besides the point but good to know with kids around. Who wants a stale cone?

Most of what I have on lists went to the desert so it had to do with keeping skin and lips hydrated and clean. Bear with me while I try and modify my list for someone on a sub. Some of the good things DH remembers getting are hand held games (they sell them for uno, race cars, poker, etc). Also, the one thing he LOVED which was really small was a pencil sharpener. He said they had all kinds of pencils and no sharpener. A lot of guys like to draw and the pencils come in handy. There are also some of those chip and dip packs that come together that were good. Dry drink mixes. Ummm....that's all I can think of right now.

Thank you! I am not sure what these guys like so I am just hoping if they don't like a certain thing they can trade. Everyone is getting the same things. I have put jerky, dental floss, q tips ( I have a thing about dirty ears), candy bars, gum, mints, dice, yoyo's, chapstic, cards, and I still have a little while till I need to send them so I'll be finding more and more I'm sure.

I just felt bad when my dh told me that some of the guys don't ever get any mail. I know how good it makes my dh feel when he gets mail.

Oreos
popcorn
pringles
hard suck candy like jolly ranchers
calling cards
disposable camera (under $3 at Walmart)
newspaper, even old they get a kick out of reading it.
A big thing with my best friends hubby was those little chili microwave bowels.

Remeber, if they are on ship, they can get candy and some things from the store on ship. But not all ships have stores.

Another good way to keep cookies from breaking is to place them in a bag, seal, and place in a larger bag of popcorn. This way they have cushion, and they can eat the popcorn too.

I sent Marlon some cookies about two weeks ago that haven't made it yet. I put them in some Tupperware with a few slices of bread to keep them soft, at this rate he's gonna get a tub of moldy bread.

I also get requests for double a batteries, adapters to make one outlet two, gum, I know there is a ton of other stuff I just can't think of now.

Here are a few great sites to check out, with good care package ideas.

http://www.operationsoldiersupport.o...ePackages.html

http://www.adoptaplatoon.org/carepackagelist.html

http://singleparents.about.com/cs/a/CarePackages03.htm

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/701471Click here to enlargests

http://www.pixelsplus.net/operation/package.htm

These are sites I use when putting together a care package. Of course the last one I sent got to him 4 days after he returned - and I mailed it the day he left!! Military mail is hard to understand, my parents mailed him one and it took 4 weeks!
