Who's on base and...

who's off base?

We're off base. I don't think we'd ever live on base with the yard nazi's unless we had to. I love where we live. We are soooo close to base. Like a minute away but we're surronded by woods. You can't see another house from anywhere around my house.

We live on base, I feel safer here. I actually like it that people have to keep up their yards, etc. Although they aren't really all that strict here. I like to be able to see my neighbors and not be afraid when my dh is deployed.

That said, if we stay here after the next deployment we will be buying a house, but not b/c I don't like it here, but b/c we need more space.

We're off base right now. The only time we were on base was in Hawaii and it wasn't that bad. Click here to enlarge We are going to be living on base at our next duty station since the wait list is only 2-3 months.

We're off base. The only time we've been on base is in HI. The wait list here is ATLEAST 18 months...the wait in HI was literally 2 weeks. Click here to enlarge

I'm not too sad about being off base here, the housing on base sucks.

Off base now, we have been off base, on base, on base and off base for each place we have lived.

We would be on base here if the base was closer to the city, or even closer to the nearest town.

We live on post. I always prefer to do so, but we usually rent until getting assigned quarters.

We are finally on post after waiting almost 2 years on the list! I really like th eplace we are living in, it is surprisingly big for military housing. The outside is pretty blah looking, and we have to deal with the neighbors that want to send there kids to my house everyday, but it is great not getting $270 electric bills anymore. We are off post, and that's what we prefer. Not to mention the housing here is crap.

I live off-base. I have a nice townhouse about 15 minutes away from base. You couldn't pay me enough to live in the base housing here. 4-story apartment buildings, people above, below, and to each side of you. No way man.

On post, and now that they finished the addition and I have an extra bathroom and laundry room (no more basement runs for me!!!) I love it! Plus it helps right now that there are neither neighbors below nor above us. Germany here as well, so it's stairwell housing.

The housing here isn't that bad, Ticky. It's old, but nothing like the shitty quarters we had in Germany. Click here to enlarge

If you come here, just opt for off-base housing. There are some pretty nice places here.

You get a pretty decent housing allowance here. Everything is a bit more expensive, so COLA is through the roof.

But, really, they've redone alot of the housing here. It's pretty decent. I know they're working on alot of the army housing. Some friends of mine live in Base housing at Grafenwohr, and it's fricken gorgeous. Even if it is a 4-story apartment bin.

All my friends that lived off-post had no American TV and they had problems getting the landlords to do anything about problems.

I'll spare you the rant about the people that owned the buildings that my best friend lived in, which was rented to the Army and the local gov't, which they used to house refugees.
