Generic work celebration thread

I just got a new educational publishing contract and was offered 25% more than base pay because the editor likes the quality of my work Click here to enlarge

It's a major publishing company and I'm thrilled to get in there--the project covers the next 6 months Click here to enlarge I'm hoping to get hired for more projects long-term.

This means maybe we can afford the complete electrical rewiring we discovered our new house needs Click here to enlarge

Click here to enlarge Congrats on the 25% pay hike! Sounds like you are doing good work. Click here to enlarge

Sorry to hear about the electrical though. Older houses can be huge money pits.

Click here to enlarge That's great about the $$.

I'm sorry about the rewiring. We had to do it this summer too. And it's not completely done, but done enough that it's safe, which is nice. The only good thing is that at least you have some extra cash to spend on it (rather than going into debt).

We have a 60-amp system Click here to enlarge so we need to upgrade the actual box. DH is working on doing the wiring to the outlets himself. We have a TON of them (around 80) and the former owner did some weird, weird stuff with the ground wires.

If DH can do the outlet wiring and outlet box replacement (we have good old-fashioned sheetrock--the real stuff--in our 1955, well-built home here, so it's hard to saw), then we can save a pile of money.

The problem is, well, my husband + power saw = emergency room? Who knows Click here to enlarge

So wiring, and not Ireland, it is. Click here to enlarge

Our group is moving off the main corridor into this section and into a nice, quiet tucked away corner, away from the offices of our boss's boss and his boss Click here to enlarge And now, when it's quiet and the phones aren't ringing, I can knit all I want Click here to enlarge

47, our house was built in 1959. It's tongue-in-groove and very well built, but not one outlet (save for in the added sunroom) would accommodate a polarized plug when we moved in, so I can relate. Luckily I have 2 uncles who are very good at electrical work and they replaced a number of outlets, but we still have a few left that have to be changed over.

Our sheetrock is actually thinner than the sheetrock they use nowadays and some of it actually crumbled and we had a hard time finding replacement sheetrock. I don't think code actually allows that thin sheetrock anymore.
