sigh -- I wish people wouldn't use inflated titles for employees.

They advertised for a Communications Director and told me that they were surprised by the level of the applicants they got -- why were they surprised? They aren't actually looking for a communications director they are looking for an administrative assistant who can write reasonably well.

They are also surprised by the salaries people are looking for.

Grrr! Between that and jobs where they give insane salary ranges ("$30,000-$95,000/yr), it's very frustrating trying to find jobs to apply for!

47 -- I hate the requests for salary requirements as well. One of the issues for us is technically I need to make more money than I did at the paper if the job is 9 to 5 because our daycare costs will increase. The nice part of the newspaper industry is that I could work second shift and really control that expense.

bleedsink, could you freelance and break even with non childcare costs, as long as your DH has a job with benefits--at least until James is in full-day school? Or do you want a f/t job for security?

From a financial perspective if I could find something part-time (say retail off hours from my husband) or consistant enough freelance work I don't need to make nearly as much as I did at the paper.

But there's a problem because the largest number of newspapers in this state are owned by the company I left. I'm pretty damn sure I'm persona non gratia Click here to enlarge

Even the other papers are seriously favoring their former employees when it comes the the extremely limited freelance opportunities (which I can understand - I've shown those same loyalities to my former employees).

I need to try and get some magazine work.

To be really honest is I miss talking with adults. I miss having discussions on politics and policy flaws. You know the way disected Lieberman over pizza Click here to enlarge

I love my kids but really need adult interaction soon. Click here to enlarge I recently ran across one of the local mom groups at the Border's story time and can I just say Click here to enlarge.
