Milk blister? Whaaaa?

DS is 22 months. He had a rough week last week getting eyeteeth and having pneumonia. He's back to his happy, jolly self but during that week, his latch was off and at one point he sort of vaulted over me while nursing. He didn't let go and I immediately felt some sort of pulled something deep within my left breast, inner side of the breast. It felt like a sprained ankle, only inside my left breast. At the same time, there was a sharp, needle-like pain on the tip of my of left nipple.

He was convinced to nurse on the right side for the next day or so, only nursing on the left for a brief time, carefully positioned, to empty it. The strained boob muscle, or whatever that was, is fine. There is now a white blister on the nipple. Everytime he goes to nurse, it hurts hurts hurts like crazy. It is only in the one spot and it appears to have milk in it. It is offcenter of the tip. This is the first time I've had any problems nursing with either of my kids. I now understand. If something like this had cropped up early on nursing an infant, I totally understand not going long term.

Anyhoo, Marymoo and other wise women...how do I make this stop?!?!?

MiMi posted a great link.Click here to enlarge You'll find treatment options there.
The trauma could have caused a plugged duct(blebs can be plugged ducts or simply skin grown over a milk duct),or a nick on your nipple that healed over and impeded the milk flow.
I hope you heal quickly!

I got a milk blister (and plugged duct) when DD1 was 6 mos old.Click here to enlarge

It hurt every time I nursed her, until we were down to only twice a day.

Hope you feel better soon.
