Le sigh...another clog. Although this time the left tit has clogged two times in a row, instead of passing off to the right! Not sure if that deserved a clap or not.

This was weird in that it really hurt, and I couldn't get anything out of it. During the night, it felt like someone was shoving a needle straight into the boob via the nipple every time he sucked. Kinda made it hard to sleep through nursing. By morning it was pretty swollen and sore. I tried a hot shower and just standing in front of my poor splattered bathroom mirror, but no luck. Finally by evening dh took both boys out to soccer practice for Zach and I sank into a hot bath. And got to work. After much labor with a washcloth and hot water, something spurted out and slammed into the faucet on the other end of the tub. I never did get to see the bastard, it melted, sank into the tub, or something. But THEN...OMG. So bizarre. A huge stream of thick, creamy milk came pouring out. Well, I will say milk. It looked like liquid fat. It just oozed and oozed. By the time I got out of the tub, it was a true milk bath.

If there is one thing I've learned from your problems, it was to stock up on Soy Lecithin. I bought a bottle of it yesterday, "just in case".

Did it make a "pop" sound at least? And how much smaller did your poor breast look after this was all done?

WHat does a plugged duct feel like? Is it one of those situations where if you have one you'll know? My boobs are rather lumpy (cysts) on their own so I'm not even sure what a messed up duct would feel like

It feels the same to me. A few times I haven't managed to disloge a clog fast enough, and the the soreness proceeds to redness, more pain, slight fever, chills and all over body ache and I have to get in unclogged fast and spend a day in bed.

You have a wonderful way with words! I had that happen to me with my oldest daughter. I was away on business and you know how the pump just isn't as good as a baby. I had to cancel on dinner and drinks with the meeting attendees and have some special me time with my breast in the hotel room.

In case anyone is wondering what to do on a business trip, I managed to dislodge it by using a washcloth soaked in the hottest water I could get out of the tap, using the washcloth as a compress until it got cool, and then pumping that side for 10 minutes and starting the cycle over again. After about three hours (yes, three hours) that sucker popped loose. I got about 15 ounces of milk off that side when I finally got relief.

And I saved every last drop of it since I couldn't see what had made it clog up in the milk anyway.
