Supply issues, part deux

Well I thought things were going well... She had her one month check and had gained 19 oz.in 12 days. Click here to enlarge She is 5 weeks today and the last few days have been awful. She's only happy at the breast when milk is flowing quickly, and will only nurse for 8-10 minutes on each side. Then she pulls away and cries. She'll be fine for a hour or so (sometimes longer) before acting like she wants to nurse again. But when I put her on she sucks, pulls away, cries. Eventually I get sore and get tired of fighting with her. The freakin' bottles are in the cupboard just calling my name but then the guilt weighs in and I continue to try to nurse her. Why does this have to be so hard? Click here to enlarge As selfish as it sounds, all this weighs on my emotions. After sitting on the couch for what seems like most of the day, feeding the baby, I find myself teary and my patience gets very low. Nighttime has been going fine. She still will only eat for 8-10 minutes on each side but she seems satisfied and goes right back to sleep.

I would check out la leche or an LC. I'm sorry you've had a rough couple of days Click here to enlarge.

I'll buck the trend, I don't think her kids are all that in the cute department. not all kids are cute. they have other attributes that make up for that, but look at tweedle's aiden, that is a cute kid. and your kids mel, those are adorable kids. Her's are average. I wouldn't take a second look passing her on the street.

What have you done to up your supply so far?

My supply was great with dd, and with ds2 it was mediocre. We are still nursing though and he is almost 19 months and I'm still trying to figure out how this tandem thing will work Click here to enlarge

Nursing on demand, increasing fluids, and eating oatmeal. I tried the Mother's Milk Tea again and the Fenugreek still upsets my stomach.

How do you get your supply up so that you can nurse then pump a bottle for a later feeding? What I have is what she eats. There are a couple Xmas parties that dh wants to go but I'm not sure how to make that work.

What I used to do with Harrison was nurse him in the morning on one side and then pump on the other, I had the most milk in the morning so he didn't want both boobies. Maya wouldn't let me do that so with her I nursed her in the morning and then when she went down for her morning nap I would pump then. At first I didn't get much but my supply grew and I was able to stock my freezer for going back to work by doing that.

It's not a feeling, it's a knowing.

Try to feed her 10-15 minutes before you expect her to want it.
