I can't believe we haven't discussed...

...that family with the two babies that had to be rescued from the middle of the ocean.

I found their blog:

http://www.therebelheart.com/charlottes-blog/

I just started reading but it sounds like hell and I can't imagine why they wanted to take two tiny kids sailing around the world.

Do you remember the story of the parents who sold everything and pulled their kids from their school and friends to sail around the world? They ended up getting shipwrecked on a coral reef. I remember reading the book and being half jealous in the first half and then panicked in the second.

The baby seems to be fine now, thank God.

While I have no problem with people taking their kids sailing, these fucking selfish dicks took babies on a cramped little boat. You know, babies that need to be given daily run around time.

Besides that, it doesn't sound like they really knew what the fuck they were doing. I would only take on a trip like that with a competent crew that knew how to repair the boat and enough spare parts to rebuild the fucking thing at sea.

I just spent a little while reading/skimming the blog. They sound like interesting people. Evidently they've been living on their boat in Mexico for a year and a half before deciding to do this ocean crossing. There's some cool pics of them shopping and prepping for the trip. There's also some Outnumbered Anger-worthy pics of the kids riding in cars sans carseats, but I digress. I wonder how they're paying for all this. It looks like a 2-year vacation.

Now as far as bringing babies on an extended ocean voyage, I dunno.... I'll let you guys bag on them for that. Click here to enlarge

Honestly, aside from the endangering children thing, it looks like people following their dream to me. Makes me sad they lost their boat when the navy decided to sink it. It was, literally, their home.

Omg my BFF knows these people. She was home (with her new baby, incidentally) last weekend and was telling me about these crazy people who were going to try to cross the Pacific with no wind Click here to enlarge I'm not sure on all the sailing jargon, but basically everyone was telling them they were insane in the membrane but the lady trusted her husband more than the weather Click here to enlarge

My gf and her dh have been cruising/sailing/whatever for about two years then she got preggers and thought "Great, I'll just bring the baby with us! Raise him at sea!" Baby is 4 months old now. They're sailing to San Diego to sell the boat in July Click here to enlarge

Her blog can be found by googling B.ettie D.el M.ar. It's a strange little world amongst sailboat people.

The lack of paragraphs alone will give you a stroke. Click here to enlarge

They look like an adorable, fun couple with two beautiful children. I'm sure they'd be a blast to have drinks with. Click here to enlarge There has got to be a significant amount of delusion and hubris to even think that this would be a good idea rather than idiotically dangerous.

jeez, and i had problems with my sister taking two preteens into a country that is basically third world, and incredibly, politically unstable.

i sympathize with the brother's reaction in the second article. i've been where he is, going wtf?

it's a one year old. one year olds get sick. you dont take a one yr. old on a voyage like that. why? they wont remember shit. you will. therefore it's all about you, now isnt it?

I just read in one of her annoying posts that she doesn't even know how the sails work. That is smart. One adult that can sail. All it would take is a conk on the head and they would be screwed.

I hate boats, open water and mostly my children near either Click here to enlarge I need a Xanax just reading that blog. Have they not seen the movie open water? Dear dog, I would be a fucking mess worrying about my kids going overboard or capsizing or a million other things.

I do think with an experienced and non paranoia crew, it could be fun with older kids. Not mine bc they fight constantly and someone would intentionally end up overboard.
