The thread for random stuff

Maybe people don't post cause it seems like the slower it gets here,
the more catchy or exciting your topic needs to be to get anyone to answer.

I've seen on other boards elsewhere fabulous random stuff threads,
where you can just say hi or post what you had for dinner, or interesting news items, random complaints about the hot weather, etc.

What say you, do you have a random comment to post or is this place really really dead?

"Netflix announced Tuesday that it will give new parents “unlimited” time off during the first year after a child is born or adopted.
In a statement, the video streaming giant said it will keep paying employees during their time off, and that they can return “part-time, full-time, or return and then go back out as needed.”
“We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances,” the statement added."

Pretty interesting.
Any other companies have "unlimited" paid maternity/paternity?

Can they go back to work and work part time but get full time pay? Or is it, you won't lose your job and you can work when you want but whatever time you work for you will get paid for?

It's not a feeling, it's a knowing.

I'll buck the trend, I don't think her kids are all that in the cute department. not all kids are cute. they have other attributes that make up for that, but look at tweedle's aiden, that is a cute kid. and your kids mel, those are adorable kids. Her's are average. I wouldn't take a second look passing her on the street.

Well they don't count vacation hours, you just take what you need and still get paid,
so it looks like you take the maternity/paternity leave you need in the first year of baby's life, and they don't keep track of that either and you still get paid.

Some say that people are so afraid of it still "counting" when it comes time for reviews and such, so they tend to not take as much as they really need--but Netflix says that people just take what they need and they aren't judged for it.

Interesting concept.

It's supposed to be National Night out or whatever.

Anyone sit on their front porch tonight?

I'm in Phoenix and it was about 105 still at the time I would have sat outside tonight, so we skipped it and stayed inside.

I bought tickets for 2 wheelchair basketball games for next week at the ParaPan Am Games. I've never seen it but the clips that I have seen look very cool. Really looking forward to it. Click here to enlarge

I paid my flood insurance on July 22nd and while they have updated my policy they haven't yet taken the money out of my account.

I have a guitar lesson this evening and I've barely practiced. It a good thing that my instructor is patient with me.

I hate that! I try to pay everything either online or in cash in order to avoid "the wait".

So now you know the online and the phone system are both fubared
They probably entered the info you have them over the phone into the online system.

First day of school for my sophomore today. Seems so damned early. Too short of summer but then again I'm getting tired of the heat.

Oh the first day they wouldn't do it on the phone either. It was a five day process. If it hasn't come out by next week I will call them.

I don't know whether I should eat chia seeds or not. I had to go to the ER a couple weeks ago for diverticulitis and I got two different opinions from four different doctors.

The internet doesn't clear things up, either. Click here to enlarge

My kids are at sleep away camp. This is their 4th year and they are gone for 26 days. 10 day to go. I think it's been good for everyone. Camp was invented by parents with teens, I'm sure of it Click here to enlarge

After you decide that you are done having kids you should be able to have your uterus taken out. It's just useless sitting there anyway being an asshole every month.

The exchange students leave tomorrow and I can't wait to see the back of them. I feel bad for writing that but it's the truth.
