Re-reading the Joy Luck Club. In between lurid true crime.

There are two Americas - separate, unequal, and no longer even acknowledging each other except on the barest cultural terms. In the one nation, new millionaires are minted every day. In the other, human beings no longer necessary to our economy, to our society, are being devalued and destroyed. -- David Simon

I dated a Nestene duplicate once. Swappable head. Did keep things fresh. Right then! I have questions. But number one is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?

One of my library ladies just emailed me in the middle of the night when she finished The Rent Collector saying I MUST read it, so I guess that's in the hole. If you email me a 2:00am I have to respect that.

I love her too. Have you read Josephine Tey? Better than Agatha Christie, IMO.

I just finished this book
https://www.flankerpress.com/product/mr-big/

its the story of a woman whose husband drowned their 2 little girls & got off with it over the "mr big' type investigations. This was around 2002
He had said 1 little one fell in the water so he left the other little girl & drove to the next town to his house & both girls ended up passing away .
It was one of the poorly written book I've read. Some of the things in there are pure filler. It is like you had to write a 400 word essay and you only had 100.
It was bad.

Hey, this pulled me out of my reading slump:

Carry On
, by Rainbow Rowell

It was just plain fun. Especially if you've read Harry Potter - it's a tribute to HP fan fiction, kind of....especially the slash (m/m) stuff. And it's also very good if you've read Fangirl by Rowell. But this is also a great story in it's own right, with all kinds of funny tidbits and interesting character/plot twists.

It's fantasy, with snogging and an insidious Humdrum. Click here to enlarge

I'm just starting "The Thing About Jellyfish" which is a YA novel which won a National Book Award and I've heard is a frontrunner for the Newberry. The author is a friend of mine from college and I'm very anxious to get in to it. (Zea, I saw you had this on your Goodreads TBR).

I've been on a science writing kick, so "Bonk" by Mary Roach and "The Violinist's Thumb" by Sam Kean. I think Kean has surpassed Roach as my favorite science writer, he's so good.

There's a new Louise Penny book? Yay! I should reserve it at the library. Maybe I'll get to read it before the next one is out. Click here to enlarge

I'm on the fifth Outlander book (The Fiery Cross) and I'm going very slooooowly because I know more horrible things are right around the corner. Because there are horrible things happening to the most beloved characters in all the books and I'm just not up for it right now. Click here to enlarge
