I think it's more that he's truly a small c fiscal conservative, so the current Conservative party does not represent his ideals in any way, and he doesn't want to support the Liberals either. It's probably more of a thought that NDP is the only way his vote can do any good against the Harper Cons without him hating himself tomorrow moring.

Liberals ahead by almost 600 votes in that riding. It's really looking like a sweep. Crazy.

Sad to see so many ridings swing away from the NDP. Click here to enlarge Maybe people don’t understand the vote-splitting thing? If a riding is already held by a progressive candidate, you don’t need to send any messages. Click here to enlarge

I have no idea what to make of these results. I really wonder if Mulcair's attempt to move the NDP more to the centre is hurting them a bit. This whole campaign was like a bizarre world where the Liberals were further to the left than the NDP.

I didn’t get that impression at all. I mean, I got the impression that Mulcair is a touch more towards centre than Uncle Jack was, but I definitely haven’t felt like the Liberals were further left than the NDP.

In other news, the Globe and Mail just called and tried to sell me a subscription. I politely informed the guy that I would probably never in my life pay for a paper that endorses the Conservatives. Click here to enlarge

I was thinking that Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta were later?

Nope, Manitoba and I think part or maybe all of Saskatchewan closed at 8:30 CT/9:30ET.

I’m glad to see the back of Harper, but I’m a little saddened to see that Canadians still aren’t brave enough to try something other than the same old Liberal or Conservative politics.

I'm so happy that Harper is gone. So so so happy. I feel bad about the NDP thing, too. But if this is what it was going to take to get rid of Harper, then I'm good.

I agree, Liza. I'd much rather have a Liberal government/NDP opposition or NDP government/Liberal opposition than have the Conservatives in either government or opposition.

I'm pretty sure that Harper said he'd resign if the Conservatives lost power, right? RIGHT?

I’m not sure that a Liberal majority will be significantly better for Canada. Better yes, but significantly so - I’m not convinced. Majority governments aren’t great for Canada, regardless of who holds them.

All the same time I think. I have no idea why Atlantic Canada shut down so much earlier than the rest of us.
