OMG you guys, I'm seeya

I've been using after school sitters since 2011 to pick my kids up and drive them to their stuff, and I swear, I'm starting to feel like I have seeya's secretaries babysitting for me. We have been through SO MANY sitters. Individually, they all pretty much left for legitimate reasons (such as, "I graduated from college and am moving to Illinois," "My father had a stroke and I am dropping out of school," "I, personally, had a UTI that went septic and I was in the hospital for three weeks and am now transferring to Iowa State.")

Collectively, however, I'm starting to get a complex. Do you think my kids are doing nasty things to them when I'm not home? Frogs in the bed? Pepper in their tea?

It's because I've never let you see a photo of my hands; I was able to keep this under wraps.

I think that if you want a long term sitter you need to find a nice 45-55 yo lady who doesn't have grandkids yet, misses running her own children around. She will adore your children and like the extra money in her pocket.

I know, I really want a granny, but college kids are plentiful.

College kids are cheap and plentiful but if you keep one for more than two months you're doing pretty damn well. Click here to enlarge If you want a sitter who will stick around for the long haul you'll need to pay significantly better than you probably want to and they'll be a lot harder to find.

It's like the "pick two: cheap, fast, accurate" thing. Except it's more, "cheap, easy to find, reliable."

I listened to a woman complain about a 15 yo homeschooled child (not related to her) who is her main babysitter during the day for her 4 yo. Turns out the 15 yo is unreliable. Hmm. Weird. Also, not CPR certified - why do you ask? Click here to enlarge

You guys! I posted an ad on sittercity.com, someone applied, and then the next day said she couldn't do it (before even meeting us).

The babysitters are networking. They're telling each other about us. "Don't sit for them! They're awful!"

Seriously, though, I don't even know how I would FIND a granny.

Start going to Bingo nights?

T-shirts for all occasions. Even Canadian Thanksgiving.

I had unreliable but competent young secretary (who eventually moved away), ree-ree-ree crazy secretary who quit moments before I wanted to fire her, and now sweet/reliable but less competent secretary who has health issues.

(I use grandparents for after school care - my parents and inlaws - that can be it's own bag of crazy)

Lime time.

My mom is a nanny and uses care.com to advertise.

Now she mainly watches old people bc she only likes babies but check on there too.

I feel like I already spent money on sittercity.com, I don't know that I want to pay for care.com also. But I will if I have to.

Send a message via Yahoo to PunkassPie
We have a neighborhood FB page and post their availability and ask for sitters all the time, see if you can try that?

It's not a feeling, it's a knowing.

I'll buck the trend, I don't think her kids are all that in the cute department. not all kids are cute. they have other attributes that make up for that, but look at tweedle's aiden, that is a cute kid. and your kids mel, those are adorable kids. Her's are average. I wouldn't take a second look passing her on the street.

This is me with lawn guys. Click here to enlarge It's a lawn and you mow it and I pay you. How hard is that? I went through six before I got my current one who has annoying traits but is pretty good.
