I would really suggest getting the vaccine for your older son and for this one (if this turns out not to be shingles), because my kids got chicken pox last fall, and it was absolutely miserable for the (then) 12 and 15yo compared to the 7 and 10 yos. I thought the oldest had the vaccine, but apparently I was wrong. I remember one of my 40ish professors getting it 20 years ago, and he was out of class for at least 2 weeks. The older you get, the worse it is and the higher the chances of complications.

It does look like shingles. Hope he can get the antiviral soon enough, it makes a HUGE difference.

FYI Shingles vaccine is only 50% effective and most insurance won't pay for it for people under 60.

ďI donít know why we donít create some sort of system where we could train [Syrian refugees] to then go back to their own country and then fight for that country. Doesnít somebody have to stay in the Middle East and make the Middle East a better place to live?Ē

Was he feeling badly a few weeks ago? Does it itch? Did he get one larger patch then have it spread?

Shingles!

The Dr was stumped. Couldn't wrap his head around it. Finally had to concede that it's 99.9% shingles. He took a swab but he's on an antiviral.

Hope he has a milder case.
