Dodge Caravan question

We have 2 bench seats in our caravan. The back one seats 3, the middle one seats 2. Has anyone moved the back seat to the middle position and seated 3 carseats across? (We currently have 2 carseats in the middle, one in the back.)

Where would I find info about this?

Read your owner's manual thoroughly and if it's not in there, call Dodge. Not the dealership, it's sad how clueless lots of dealers are on vehicle features (just heard a horror story from a friend of mine who went van shopping and asked to be shown which models had a split-bench third row, was told NONE had that option, but she knew they did, and walked the dealer right over to the correct model).

I have done that, Shagnes. The only issue for me is that I cannot put the 2-seater bench in the 3rd row position. I have a 2000 Grand Caravan.

It can be tricky to get the 3 seats in tight so be prepared to work on it when it's not bright and sunny! Click here to enlarge

Oh and thinking a little more about it... perhaps your concern was with tethering? If you want to tether three seats with the three-seater bench in the middle seating position, you would absolutely need to contact the manufacturer. Make sure that you do not just talk to anyone there either. You could call 4 times and get 4 different answers!

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that it's been tried before Click here to enlarge Luckily I only need one tether because my Britax is still rear-facing and can be tethered to the front seat, and my third seat is actually a convertable carseat/booster (I meant to say that initially but I forgot Click here to enlarge ) that is being used as a booster right now.

I think you are right though - it's going to be a tight fit. But, I am going to try it because we need the back for all our camping gear. Last year we took 2 cars which was not practical at all.

Thanks!

Ahhh ok. Well let me give you one more hint!!!

Make sure that the booster seat is on the opposite side of the buckle for the middle seatbelt. That way there is no accidental disconnect of the middle carseat! Click here to enlarge Of course, this is the seating position behind the driver in my vehicle therefore it is only feasible to do so when you have that 3-seater where you are considering. KWIM? LOL

Enjoy your camping trip!

Do you have an update? Did it work?

I have the same van and am curious to what you ended up doing.

Can you tell me how I would go about getting the dodge phone number? I have a 1994 dodge grand caravan with the captains seats in the middle, bench in the back, and I bought the van used with NO user manual Click here to enlarge I currently have my son behind the drivers seat in a booster, but come december I think I will probably have the baby carrier in the middle of the bench seat, although I am undecided right now.

raemax, the phone numbers in my manual are:

US: (800) 992-1997
Can: (800) 465-2001
Mex: (915) 729-1248

Update: We installed the three seats in the middle row. It works, but it's very tight Click here to enlarge The 3-seater bench isn't really much bigger than the 2-seater Click here to enlarge However, the seats are in and we have the entire back free for cargo Click here to enlarge It is not going to be a permanent arrangement, but it's fine for our trip.

I am impressed you fit three across there...we have two turbo boosters on the back bench of ours and there is hardly any space in the middle.

Glad it worked out for you though! Click here to enlarge
