Did I make an ass of myself in class today?

I'm teaching two U.S. History courses.

I'm trying to liven things up Click here to enlarge.

Today their first paper was due. No reading was due. We were covering discussion questions for a chapter, and then doing a web-based activity.

I brought in weird shit from my cabinets Click here to enlarge like pickles, applesauce, nail polish, hair products, a night light, etc.--all new and wrapped.

We played "Yard Sale Friday." Each student who answered a discussion question correctly got to "COME ON DOWN!!!!" and choose a prize.

The first class liked it. The second class didn't.

What would you think if a professor did this?

I'd think the prof was nuts, but not in a bad way.

The funny thing is, my first class is usually my tougher class, while my second class is friendlier Click here to enlarge.

Next time I should bring 2L of Diet Coke and Reeses Cups, huh? Oooo, I'll pawn all my kids' Halloween candy they can't eat off on my students! Click here to enlarge

Hmm, since I am an older student I'd have thought it was a riot.

Now, Dd and friends would have thought you were nuts. Click here to enlarge

I love it. I would have laughed the entire time, but I'm a wierdo... You have to judge your crowd.

I had to give a presentation to a bunch of guys who thought farting was the highlight of life. I had a huge bag of candy and when they got an answer right..I chucked a piece at them. They were very attentive!

Can you come teach some of my classes?

My midwifery professor doesn't have a creative bone in her body and her classes are soooooo boring.

moana, it's the same amount of time. We answered typical discussion questions, and I kep class rolling, aside from shouting, "COME ON DOWN!" whenever someone got an answer right Click here to enlarge.

You would be a much appreciated rarity in my class. Someone who cared enough to think critically about whether my actions are valuable in the course of their education or not. Click here to enlarge Most of them don't even DO THE READING much less participate.

I am always suprised when there is someone in my class who doesn't do the work........I don't know why Click here to enlarge

Many of the people I go to school with have their parent's footing the bill for their classes and city life so that may have something to do with the lack of interest Click here to enlarge

I assign a whopping 17 pages per WEEK. This week was an exception--they had to read and discuss a 136 page book.

Normally it's one, single 17 page chapter. Jeebus.

I had a class (that I dropped- way over estimated my study limits and being a parent) anyways. We had to read chapters and 4-6 journals a week. All on Ethnography (where is the snooze smilie)

I would have loved your class, rather than having a nightmare about my sausage smelling proff laying ontop of me so I couldn't leave the class. Click here to enlarge)

In my pediatric nursing class, I take all the lecture online and then once a week we get together. The first week we played jeopardy. It was a hoot! They brought in noisy kids toys, that as a mother I'd hate to have in the house, that's we'd use to ring in when we knew the answer.

There's always going to be people in the class that thinks it's ghey! Click here to enlarge
