For my Psychology of Leadership and Supervision class, we have to do a 5 minute presentation pretending we are going to be the new manager of a Borders bookstore. We have to introduce ourselves, announce layoffs of 2 employees , let them know what I know about their current performance, and try to gain the support of the remaining workers. I am trying to write it out so I have clear thoughts in my head and don't blank while up there. It's 5 stupid minutes...I have some wrote down, my brain is so fried I have to do it tomorrow so I guess it will come to me eventually

Wow, that is an interesting task. How did it go?

Almost everyone else stood at the podium and read off a piece of paper in monotone voice. I stood off to the side, interacted with the "employees", and used normal body and hand movements. I got done and he said "Wow, that was excellent! This is what I mean about making employees feel comfortable while talking to them."

He said I will have no problem filling the management role when needed to. I told him I am not a Business major, I am an Accounting major, we only talk to people when we have to.

Good job!

It amazed me how many people just read off in monotone. It made me want to glaze over on long presentations. Great job!
