Today I celebrate my 48th birthday. More importantly I am celebrating my first birthday as a survivor. This birthday was given to me because of the love and support of my family and friends
It was given to me by amazing people at an amazing hospital. I want to give something back and I need your help. Some of you have already become my supporters, and for this you have my heartfelt thanks.
On September 10-11, 2011, I'll be participating in a very special event called Shoppers Drug MartŪ Weekend to End Women's Cancers(TM) benefiting The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret.
I'll walk with two good friends, 60 kilometres in two days. The proceeds of the walk will support cancer research, treatment, and services.
I've committed to raising at least $2,000 and I've been given a good head start by some wonderful people.
According to the National Cancer Institute of Canada, approximately 20,500 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and about 5,400 will die from the disease. Additionally, over 8,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with ovarian, cervical, or uterine cancer this year, and nearly 3,000 will die from one of these diseases.
Princess Margaret Hospital is recognized as one of the top research and treatment centres in North America. I want them to continue the incredible work that they do.
That's why I'm walking so far. To do something bold about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me - by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.
Thank you for your support!
