So....induction?

The doc says, if I wanted to, I could be induced on Saturday or Sunday. (Actual due date is Monday.) I'm 2 or 3 cm dilated, and was 75% effaced last week--she didn't tell me how much effaced I was this week.

It would be really convenient for me to have the baby this weekend, for a lot of reasons.

But...is it what's best for the child?

(For the record, both of my others were induced.)

Does it work better for you to be induced so you have childcare lined up?

That was my biggest concern when I was pg.

Yes, my mom would already be here (she lives about 2 hours away).

Induction is not ideal. It increases the chances of other interventions, which in turn can in turn increase your chance of a csection. Which of course can increase the risk of problems with the baby after birth: i.e. respiratory issues, breastfeeding issues, etc.

Having had a natural birth and a pitocin birth, I'll pick natural hands down every time. The contractions are much more manageable.

Induction is not the debbul. But I'll be damned if I personally would ever sign up for one without a damn good medical reason Click here to enlarge

I have been induced four times. My personal opinion is that the one that used pitocin was extremely rough. But the one where they just broke my water was a breeze. I would ask your doctor if he or she could induce by breaking your water.

Please consider being an organ donor and informing your family of your wishes.

Lorrie makes an excellent point.

With Claudia they used Cytotec to going and then broke my water. She was born less than 2 hours after the doc broke my water.

I've never been induced, but was given pitocin with my first (preemie) when I was getting close to their stupid time limit for having to have a c-section after my water breaking early. So I vote with the ladies that say do all you can to avoid pitocin.

Good luck either way!

What's a couple of days? I would definitely ask them to break your water first to see if that's all you need. Good luck!

I agree with the others; Pitocin kinda sucks, but the whole just breaking your water is great.

The pitocin didn't bother me, it was when she broke my water that it got rough. I had a convinience induction with my dd a day before my due date. I was really worried about getting to the hospital in time(no car at the time). I don't think it was any better or worse then my first non-induced labor

I want to say that I wouldn't, but I have never had an induction. I remember when my water broke with ds that the pain went from tolerable to horrible instantly. When they asked me if I wanted them to break my water with dd I told them to get the hell away from me and not to touch me Click here to enlarge

My biggest fear is that there is no PMS and that this is my personality.

What are your plans/ideals for pain relief?

I am not one of those who believe - broadly speaking - that women are better than men. We have not wrecked railroads, nor corrupted legislatures, nor done many unholy things that men have done; but then we must remember that we have not had the chance.- Jane Addams

I'm doin' it. I'll have a baby on Sunday!

Unless it decides to come before Sunday, of course.
