Piper's birth story: short version
8am, to hospital. Have sudden second thoughts.
Sometime between 8-9am, doctor informs me membranes will be stripped and water will be
. Break down into inconsolable tears.
Watch a lot of movies (thank you, TBS, for you marathon of Father of the Bride II (quite appropriate), Cheaper By the Dozen, and Legally Blonde.
Sometime mid-morning. Or maybe mid-afternoon. Nurse and doctor decide need to be hooked up to some sort of monitor and also have cervix checked. Push myself so far away from them that practically break through the false wooden headboard and end up in next delivery room.
9am-3pm or so. Contractions. Pitocin. Ow ow ow ow ow OOOOOOWWWWW.
Between 3-4pm. Nubain. Epidural. "What contraction?"
5pm "Let's get this baby out!"
Two pushes (which really means two series of pushes, i.e., two contractions worth).
5:20PM. "Look down, Mom!" Dr. Smollen does patented bit where she has the baby wave its little arm at mom. "It's a girl!"
5:20-? As baby is being weighed/measured/whatever else it is they do over there, decide that child's name just IS Piper, and don't care what other people think. Matt is deciding same thing at same time and figuring he is going to have to fight me on it.
6:30pm: Older sisters come to visit, bringing present of stuffed Patch the Dog from Build-a-Bear, who is wearing a Chicago Bears jersey. Ask tons of questions about various hospital equipment, to which Mom is still attached. Rub baby sister's head.
8pm: Send husband out for mashed potatoes from KFC, as the fish they sent up from the cafeteria as my first meal was absolutely out of the question.
