I have a minivan so I'm confused. Can you not reach through the captains seats to strap a kid in the way back? Do you really need to go through the trunk?

In my car, a mazda5, I would need to get kid in the back first. I can't reach far enough to do a good job tightening. I can't even pick stuff up from the seat if I am in the middle row.
Or I would sit in the trunk/hatch/wayback to buckle kid in.

TD, put the oldest in the way back. She's going to want the room soon enough.

I actually had issues where my oldest and my youngest were fighting. The baby from about 9 months or so would kick the crap out of ds1. Now that they have a slight gap in b/t them it is so much better Click here to enlarge

STH - this pretty much explains it. i would have to get aidan in first to even get TO the back seat and then that means i have 2 kids sitting outside of the car somehow while i get aidan in. but i learned after this thread that i put #2 and 3 in the car. tell aidan to get in the back. and then i go around to the trunk and buckle her in Click here to enlarge

that all sounds way too complicated. Get a van with a removable middle row seat. It's amazing. When you don't need the middle seat you have captains seats.

I think I need to have a 3rd to prove my point Click here to enlarge

Click here to enlarge well i'll never be getting a van. but when you have the seats in the middle row (lets just say they are captain like mine) there is enough space to comfortably crawl into the car when those kids are in their seats? (say at least 1 is RFing). bc there is no way i could get in to the middle area when kids 2 and 3 are already in their seats. that space sounds amazing, but i don't think dh will be buying me a van anytime soon Click here to enlarge

In my car I have my 5 yr old and almost 1 yr old in the middle row and my 2 1/2 yr old in the back. They like it that way. I don't have captains chairs but I have 3 others kids that need get in and out of the car.

The 5 yr old and 2 yr old can't fight and the 5 yr old was able to help with a pacifier and play with the baby when needed.
