I even use stories for myself sometimes to try and relax and drift off. I never really thought of it until recent years, but I suppose YouTube has made that easier.
As for kids, say you don't have a lot of books or you want to mix it up at bedtime routine, do you use videos?
I always had the idea of projecting onto a wall so the light wasn't as harsh as it would be from a screen, which would make it harder to sleep. It'd be a lot like those moving night lights (I'm not sure what they're called exactly, but they project moving images onto the wall with low light and sometimes have soft music).
I'd make a playlist of videos like this one (ideally with ads blocked) and hit play, sit with my little one until they drifted off:
Ann Can't Sleep:
I'm not sure if this would be an every night thing or just for the weekends.
Any other ideas?
