The kindness of strangers

We went to Cedar Point on Friday and generally had a blast. Rode lots of rollercoasters, walked a lot, ate junk food. The temperature was miserable, however. Hovering around the 90 mark, with humidity about the same, sun beating down, not a cloud in the sky. Shady spots were at a premium.

No surprise, then, when Martman collapsed from the heat. He just kind of checked out. Dh and I grabbed him and lowered him to a bench. I remember turning to the gathering crowd of onlookers and asking that somebody get medical help for us. I also asked for ice. One lady ran off to find a park employee. Another came up and gave us a cold soda to hold against his face until we could get some ice. A man came out of the crowd to help us lay him down on the bench and get him comfortable. Two other ladies came back with large bowls of ice for us.

Each and every one of those people were a Godsend, since neither of us wanted to move from our son's side. While I thanked them all as things were happening, I wish I could have thanked them again, but they had gone on with their day.

More people need to get involved when help is needed. Even if it's just to say 'How can I help?' You really don't know how much it means to be treated kindly during a crisis.
