SquigSoup See, this is what our ridiculous culture of fear gets us. Your 9 year old walked to a gas station. Which he shouldn't have done because it was against your house rules, so he's in trouble for that. But for God's sake, he "almost got hit by a car"? What does that even mean? That a car came barreling out of nowhere and came within inches of him, or that he was there, and then there was a car, and it wasn't even close to him but OMG IT COULD HAVE BEEN!

The whole world has gone nuts. When that police officer was 9 he was probably walking or biking all over town by himself.

Lizard Thanks. That's what I thought about the cop, that he was full of it but it had me wondering nonetheless.

I can't stand lying and he is being punished with that mostly through manual labor. I just don't know what else to do with him. All of his privilages, games etc are gone he's not doing anything anytime soon.

Patsit He is tomato staked but I don't know how long.

Lying in my house gets you in more trouble than what you originally did, at least most of the time (hitting is also a big deal here)

That officer was totally full of shit with the CPS thing, really. He talked to you, talked to your kid. Obviously things were okay. I can understand if you told the PO to fuck off, your house was filthy, your kid was starving etc, but really...kids do stupid shit, that officer should know this by now.

Lizard Yeah that was pretty long, so the short end of the long story is ds about got hit by a car someone called 911. Police came to my door threatened to call children services and that they were going to take my kids away from me. No citation or anything from the cop either.

Ds walked a block away to a local gas station without permission when he was supposed to be letting the dog out. ds is 9.

What punishments would you do because talking and lecturing goes in one ear and out the other and treating him like a 4 year old so far isn't either. Oh and he is grounded until I stop being mad.

Don't know what to think

My ds was supposed to stay on the front step to let the dog out, him and my neice. My ds is 9, my neice is 11. Ds lets the dog out in the morning before school and on the weekends its his chore. My neice goes out with him when she is here only because she thinks its "cool". Never had a problem with them doing this they have never moved from the front step.

Today on the other hand my neice decided to walk the dog to the pond which in at the end of our side walk and is around a 100 feet from the front step. Which is not what she is supposed to do but not flip out worthy. My ds on the other hand decided he was going to walk to the local ameristop, which is like a speedway. He had to cross two streets doing this one is really busy. Apparently he almost got hit by a car on the busy street and someone called 911.

I wake up to the police at my door (my SO was up with the kids) wanting to talk to me. So I go to the door and he tells me that my son was over at ameristop and almost got hit by a car. I pretty much tell him he has the wrong kid because ds has never even crossed our parking lot and knows better. I warn him all the time about crossing the street esp where we are at because people fly around the corner and you can't see the cars until they are right in front of you. He tells me no that it was him so I yell for ds and he tells me that it was him. I'm dumbfounded. Apparently the person that called 911 watched ds enough to let the cop know where he was going and the cop saw him cross the street to our complex and watched what house he went to. The cop then threatend to call children services and that they would take my kids away from me. I'm all like The police officer also asked if he could talk to ds, I told him he could and he lectured him in a very loud authoritve tone. He took my info, son and neices info and left.

I understand ds did a really stupid thing, a really really stupid thing but I don't understand the whole threatening to call children services and threating to take my kids away from me. I am grateful that the person called and that the police came to me or I would not have known he did this stupid thing because my neice played stupid right along with ds. Ds reason was he wanted to know what it felt like to walk there.

I know children services won't come take my kids away and I feel really stupid on believing my ds at this point but I am not for sure how to punish him today everytime we had to go somewhere he had to hold my hand and pretty much treated him like a four year old.
