Coralblur I have no idea where this will be but it is easier to visit a broker who deals in multiple companies and easier to go in person. Don't worry about short term vs longer term insurance. Just get a regular policy. Unless I'm mistaken you can switch when the employment based plan opens up without penalty. For physicals, check the health department. You can get a general sports/school/camp physical here for $10 at the health dept regardless of income.

You could get a high deductible plan and supplement with Aflac accident insurance. It wouldn't help with illness but it would help with bones or whatever.

And most antibiotics are dirt cheap so I wouldn't put a lot of worry into rx coverage if its only 6 months. We have to meet our deductible before drugs are covered which means we almost always pay out of pocket and only once was it a painful one (dd was hospitalized for a kidney infection then put on a really strong antibiotic after which was about $120. Anything else we have had to pay for was under $20)
