Mendy Was he feeling badly a few weeks ago? Does it itch? Did he get one larger patch then have it spread?

Pudin FYI Shingles vaccine is only 50% effective and most insurance won't pay for it for people under 60.

McBong It does look like shingles. Hope he can get the antiviral soon enough, it makes a HUGE difference.

Yes, Again I would really suggest getting the vaccine for your older son and for this one (if this turns out not to be shingles), because my kids got chicken pox last fall, and it was absolutely miserable for the (then) 12 and 15yo compared to the 7 and 10 yos. I thought the oldest had the vaccine, but apparently I was wrong. I remember one of my 40ish professors getting it 20 years ago, and he was out of class for at least 2 weeks. The older you get, the worse it is and the higher the chances of complications.

No. My kids never got that one. It's always been optional here.

He's also showing signs of gluten intolerance. Who knows. Will have to wait for the Dr.

Those complications are mostly in older people. Dh had it at 30, and despite an initial misdiagnosis that made the rash much worse, his only lasting effect was slight scarring on his back, only visible when he is sweaty and overheated. I blame that on the prescribed cortisone cream though, not the initial infection.

Pudin Although I think kids usually get a mild case of it.

Pudin If it stops and starts halfway on one side of his body, for example starts at spine, doesn't go past navel, that is kind of a Shingles thing. I am no doctor, but I had the Shingles. Hope it is just some weird teen thing and not Shingles!

Well, yes. Because it's sort of a band midline of his torso.

Yes, Again Hopefully it's a more benign rash, but you don't want him miserable on New Year's day either.

nocturnal emission Yes, we should be able to find a Dr tomorrow. His paed is off. He seems totes fine otherwise. Says he doesn't feel sick. No fever. I'm happy it doesn't seem to be spreading but I don't know how this virus works. Maybe it will still get worse, I don't know.
