tomvsgirl I am not sure htis would be do-able at a community college, but ds #1 was born right after my junior yr @ 4yr college. I had friend in the frats and sororities. Wouldn't you know ds spent a lot of time in their houses. Unusually I found the frat boys more reliable than the gals. But I was thining maybe there might be some orgs wihtin the college that might be willing to help out. just htinking off the top of my head.

Best of luck to you!

funkytown Everyone's had such great ideas!

All I can add is to not eliminate church assistance just because you do not attend one. The local Salvation Army might now of othe rresources. Try Catholic charities also if the other ideas don't work out.

Good lcuk!

krissi Yes check and see if you qualify for something like a training partnership something I cant remember what it was called when i was attending community college. It paid for a friend of mine to get childcare, buy supplies even helped with transportation cost.

Pudin I was going to suggest the college day care also. Grants are a great idea. I don't have any other advice, but I wish you luck
I think it is great that you are going back to school!

cheeky around here we have registered home daycare providers (mom who watch kids at home) and they have central number through our county's community action program (called something different in different counties) where you can get a list for moms in your area. moms charge a LOT less than day care centers and are often more flexible (ie, don't charge you if you don't use days) one of our local newspapers also has a section for moms to advertise babysitting services.

also look into whether anyone offers babysitting classes....they might be able to get you some names.

How about finding a mom to swap babysitting for?

Good luck!

~*~Raina~*~ MHM-
i applied for and am receiving a full Pell Grant from filling out my FAFSA... thank you, i will check into it and see if i can receive daycare assistance.

GrammerQueen-

MHM Are you applying for financial aid?
The university I will be attending this fall has an onsite daycare center, and they had paperwork there for parents to apply for daycare assistance through the financial aid center.
I don't remember what the program was called, but I know it said you had to complete a FASFA first.

Good luck!

Grandma_Queen You might also want to see if there is a babysitting co-op in your area. You pay for the sitting by sitting other people's kids, not in cash--you basically work the same number of hours that you use. It's usually a pretty small-ish groups. Babysitting co-ops can work out well if you trust the other people in it and if you have a flexible schedule.

Kat Is there a community college in your area? I know some of them have childcare classes. Maybe you could put a posting up there that you're looking for some part time help. Or the local high school. The high school in my area has a program where the seniors are involved in a child care center. Most of the teens in this program are readily available for babysitting.

~*~Raina~*~ i dont go to church (i am Jewish, and wish there was a Synagogue around here), and i dont know anyone else who could watch him in a pinch. my mom commited to one day a week, but i will be going to school five days a week.

Kat Are you involved with your church? Is there someone you can have to just babysit when you need it? A neighbor, friend, church member, etc.?

~*~Raina~*~
i dont know what to do... please help me, or just make me feel better...

i am going to be starting school next month, and hopefully Ian will be able to work nights so he can be home with Aidan during the day while i am in classes. but, just in case, i need ot have a daycare for him.
well, i called "Working Connections" a group that helps pay for childcare for low-income families... aparently, i cannot get it unless i am working at least 20 hours a week and going to to school full time, and my husband must be working too. i just cant work and go to school, i cannot because of my own health, the stress and also, i will never see Aidan and i cant do it. the woman said there is nothing else she can do, and there is no other groups that can help me pauy for the costs of childcare.
so, i dont know what to do- both sets of grandparents live an hour away and work, and i only have one friend who could possibly watch him, if it was an emergency (she has three kids under five).
i am just feeling discouraged and sad, i have been crying since i got off the phone.
does anyone have any suggestions?
