CraigH We found out that Proactive Genetics website is not working anymore. We know a lot of our friends have used Journey Genetics for their Twin Zygosity testing. Its lower cost too! Their website is dnalab4u.com.

Beatnic For the record , my identicals have subtle differences ( one has a slightly rounder face and one has a few little birthmarks ) but no strangers can ever see a difference and only 2 family members other than DH and I ( MIL & my step mom ) can tell them apart .

They weighed 1/2 pound different at birth , but by 9 months had evened out and since that day at every weigh in / dr appt they have weighed EXACTLY the same thing down to the ounce and all their other measurements are exactly the same too.

Our ped said that even with identicals that is pretty rare , you usually have one that is at least a little bit bigger

Beatnic We are sure. We had the DNA test and it showed them to be MZ ( identical ) twins.

We thought they were , but weren't sure and curiousity got the best us when they were 6 months old. When I was about 29 weeks a perinatologist I saw said he thought they'd be identical due to the way the cords attached to what looked like 1 huge placenta( instead of 2 fused placentas ). He couldn't be 100% certain obviously and upon delivery the hospital wouldn't tell us ANYTHING. So we ordered the test a few months later.

dallas I just found out that I'm having boy/girl twins and a million people have asked me if they're identical.

Hop Devil Yes, it was about 100 bucks through Proactive Genetics.

cheeky Mine had TTTS, only happens in MZ. We also saw the blood flow and had a placental patholgy report to confirm.

we used www.proactivegenetics.com both times. hth.

How much did the DNA test cost?

twinstwice two sets of identicals are 1 in 70,000 odds (in case you didn't already know) : )
mine are 6 years old and almost 12 months old.

twinstwice This happened to me both pregnancies. I swallowed it whole the first pregnancy but tested them at 15 months at a friend's urging and we were all shocked they were identical. I actually had to fight with the perinatologist at every visit with my second set of twins, that they could be identical even though their membranes were all separate.
and they are identical according to dna. both my sets are identical boys.

But, we knew they were fraternal from birth because the NICU typed their blood in case they needed a transfusion and one is A+ and the other is O+.

And they had seperate sacs and placentas, too.

A little OT, but I am still amazed at how many drs don't know that id twins can have seperate sacs and placentas. My best friend's sister is having twins and when they saw seperate placentas she was told they were fraternal. My friend looked like she didn't believe me when I told he they could still be id.

Same blood type, eye color, hair color, etc. One twin has always been slightly larger than the other, so his face is slightly rounder. They were one pound apart at birth and now at age 4.5 they are 2-3 pounds apart, depending on the day. One is a right handed the other left handed. They look a lot alike, not identical, but more alike than normal siblings do.

Strangers think they are identical. Close family members and friends can tell them apart with ease. I don't think they look alike, but I can see subtle differences that others can not.

Hop Devil At birth we were told "probable fraternal" due to 2 sacs/2 placentas. After a year of them looking so much alike and having the same blood type, we went ahead with DNA mouth swab testing. We found out that they are, indeed, MZ.

In the past ten days I've had four different people ask me if my girl and boy are "going to be identical?"

I'm going to start answering, "Yeah. Well, except for his paynis and her virgina..."

STUPID LISA GARBAGEFACE My twin boys looked identical for the first few months but now they are 19 months and starting to look very different to me. They never did determine if there are or not but my guess is they are fraternal. One weighs quite a bit more than the other now so it is very easy to tell them apart.

stella Fern, I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that those two adorable little boys are identical!
05-03-2005 07:54 PM
Fern The ultrasound tech told us they were DZ but they have the same blood type, have stayed within an ounce or two in weight, and look very similar, so we are thinking they're identical.

Dixie Wrecked Twinkletoes, they are totally identical. I bet ya. If you find out they're fraternal, I'll send you $5.

Mine are b/g, so it's obvious. I used to get a lot of "Are they identical?" Yup, just as identical as two different-gendered siblings can be.
