muttmango I probably started about 13 - 14 & smoked straight through until I got pregnant w/ my 1st at age 31. I quit cold turkey for 5 years,

My 1st night in a bar ... that 1st beer, the cigarrette was lit & I have been smoking a solid pack a day again for over 2 years. If I did that today, I wouldnt have started again because you can no longer smoke in bars in NJ. I enjoy smoking despite the cronic cough. I feel like I already have fucking lung cancer & should probably get checked but I decided to quit first & foremost.
My reason is my kids, I m almost 40 & I want to be here for them for as long as possible.

OH, In college I was a malrboro red but more recently - ultra light 100s

What kind of smoker WERE you? A pack? 3 packs of unfiltered Camels? social? Do tell.
There's lots of other quitters right now, we're just the only ones utilizing this forum. Here's my answers, then it's your turn:

Why did you decide to quit? Well, I've quit a bunch of times before, the usual smokers story, I suppose. This time I'm done for good. The reason? DH's grandpa is dying of lung cancer. Watching someone slowly and painfully die of lung cancer is horrible enough to make me want to quit. Watching what it's doing to DH, the pain it's putting him through to have to helplessly sit by while his grandpa wastes away, coughing up blood, being too weak to stand, etc. is too much for me. I'm done. I refuse to put anyone I love through that horribleness.

What kind of smoker WERE you? I started smoking when I was 12 or 13, I'm 27 now. I smoked about a pack a day, give or take, depending what was going on. If I was working a lot or sick, probably less. If I was socializing, drinking, with other smokers, it could be up to two packs. I smoked Marlboro Reds for a long time, then eventually switched to Marlboro Lights (DH's old brand--he quit the day we got the phone call about his grandpa almost a year ago). I really enjoyed smoking and would still be smoking if I didn't want others to suffer for my choices.
