I kwim  Look no further than the Evenflo Triumph Advance...tadaa!  It retails for about 130, you can find it on the shelf of Walmart, Target, or Babies R Us (probably not TRU though). Rearfaces to 35 pounds, forward faces to 50 pounds, and has 17" tall top harness position. The harness is infinitely adjustable so you don't have to rethread straps. Just place the child in the seat, place the red tabs at the shoulders and tighten. Voila! |

| Madame Merlot | Well that was clear as mud. I don't think I could spend more than 150, esp. if I'm buying 2 at once. But if I spread it out, it really comes down to quality/necessity. I don't want to spend 100 bucks on a seat that I have to replace in a year, nor do I want to spend 200.00 on something I could have easily replaced with a 150.00 model. Kwim? |

| Madame Merlot | Well, he's on the shorter side, and 21 lbs...seems comfy in the seat but we'll see what happens. I don't want to spend more than I have to on a seat, I don't need a lot of frills but I DO need it to be comfortable. I certainly don't want to spend Britax money. |

You can't use the SS1 til he is forward facing. He'll probably outgrow that well below 2 years and 30 pounds, which is really the minimum you should even consider switching to forward facing. There are really TONS of good convertibles on the market right now, which is awesome compared to three years ago...when we had...Britax. And that was pretty much it What's your budget looking like? |

Well, we were heading out to look at the seats at ToysRUs, when I told my friend what we were going after and she said "Oh, I have that seat from when ds was a baby. You can use my base"  So we have postponed buying for a few months at least

As MC points out you can use the seat without the base. I don't know why you think convertibles aren't safe, but they are. Perfectly safe seats If you stay away from the Graco Comfortsport or any of the Dorel seats (Safety First, Cosco or Eddie Bauer) pretty much every convertible out there is fine. The only exception would be the Cosco Scenera which makes a great low-frills spare convertible. You'll need to have a pool noodle for RF installs though. |

| Nodakbabe | The Radian truly works from birth. Ds actually fit better into the Radian at birth than he did the Safe Seat 1. And really, with him being that big, I'd get a convertible seat, don't waste your money on another base. |

Should I get another base Or another carseat? We are swapping cars, since I really don't go many places at all, but I need the carseat in the vehicle I have at the house. However, when we go places as a family we use the car that dh will now be using for work. I'd rather not move the carseat back and forth. He's in the Graco SafeSeat and he'll probably fit it for a while longer, but would it not be more economical and just as safe to get a different carseat rather than spend money on a base that we might get another 6-8 months out of? I know convertible carseats don't get the most rave reviews, but is there one that's considered a good, safe buy? |
