silentbunni do you plan your calls every day . your outbound ones . . i do @ GM so i done set anything for the first or last hour of work then i can catch up on some stuff i tell my clients that im not avaiable for those times either & if i get a call it goes to the answering machine. thats how im surviving . ive been in your place back when i moved into my position . i had over 80 clients that were ignored for a month or more .

i wish you luck & if you can take a day off claim to have "sunitis" that can only be cured by sitting in the sun or sleeping in bed .

i hope things get better soon

Burned out

I completely understand! I run my own company and I'm a mother to two kids. It can get crazy sometimes. It's good that you were able to somehow vent your feelings in this thread.

Margaritas all around!

Thanks for commisserating with me, y'all - I actually felt better today, probably because I got a full night's sleep last night.

salty Their "voice tone" - OMG ok, seriously, I never thought about that before, and now I'm going to be judging everyone's telephone voice today.

Chimi Brown I'm ready to go.

I'm dreading today because I have to call the State of New York Insurance Pool. It's like pulling all my teeth out one by one. I hate dealing with them. Everyone that answers the phone has their voice tone set on Muzak.

salty Chimi, I say we take the little boat we're in and paddle up the river for a vacation.

Yeah, this is supposed to be the "slow season" for us - all of my Universities and colleges are out right now, and even the athletics programs are done for the next month or so before they pick up pre-season conditioning and stuff again. I have a pile of claims coming in each day, and it's just not slowing down.

Yesterday I went in to the supply closet at work and sat down on a box of reams of paper - my co-worker walked in and laughed her ass off, because she was coming in to do the same thing, just to get away from the damn desk for a few minutes. It's the only place we can go to get away and still look like we're actually working!

Chimi Brown I feel your pain, salty. It seems like all of the other industries have slowed down but the insurance industry hit maximum overdrive. I'm swamped at work as well, although my company is not offering overtime. When our lapse letters go out to clients, I might take 50 phone calls in one day. And still try to get my actual work done. Oy vey.

novocain I am really sorry. That kind of schedule sucks so much.

salty Thanks for the sympathy post, DaWezl.

My supervisors are well-aware of the situation - there are a lot of us who are over-booked right now, and they are in the process of hiring new adjusters. I'm just hitting that burn-out maximum right now, and I needed to decompress before I blew up.

We got saddled with a bunch of projects last summer that were right in the critical stages. It was so frustrating to have almost no clue of what was going on, and have people calling, demanding instant decisions b/c everything was so time-sensitive. I was definitely ripping my hair out!

If this new arrangement is affecting your relationship with your clients, have you spoken with your boss about it? As in "I'm finding it impossible to maintain the level of service I usually provide our clients with so many new accounts. I can either cut back the time I dedicate to each client, which may cause dissatisfaction, or I may need to have the number of accounts I'm assigned to reduced, so that I can provide the service our clients expect from us. What would you suggest?"

I'm So Tired, and I NEED TO VENT!!!!!

I know a lot of people work 50+ hours a week, but I'm not used to it, and I'm flipping exhausted.

I've been pulling weekly overtime since December, and I'm about to completely burn out. One girl quit last month, and I inherited one of her accounts, and it has pushed me completely into the realm of solidly over-booked. One of the reasons the account was given to me is because they needed some TLC, and my contacts LOVE me. Um, ok, I take really good care of my schools BECAUSE I HAD TIME TO TAKE CARE OF THEM REALLY WELL - I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO THAT ANYMORE, AND WHILE THEY'RE STILL HAPPY, I DON'T KNOW HOW I CAN POSSIBLY MAINTAIN THAT LEVEL OF CARE WHEN I'M OVERBOOKED!!!!!!!!!

We are supposed to process our incoming within 30 days from the date of receipt, and I am literally AT 30 days, sometimes as much as 35 days - I should be at 21 days, but that's impossible and isn't going to happen unless I start working 12 hours a day, every day, 5 or 6 days a week. We are hiring at least two new adjusters to help relieve the pressure, but who the hell knows when that's going to happen.

Oh, and the phone calls - holy hell, my phone rings off the fucking hook all day long. Just yesterday, between 9:00 and 2:00, I took 27 phone calls - I'm sure that doesn't sound like much, but you need to understand that I don't work in a call center. I'm a claims adjuster, and that's what I should be doing - not talking on the phone all fucking day. (One call alone - it was with a hospital's staff attorney - ended up being three phone calls and over one hour of my time first thing in the morning.) Don't get me wrong - part of my job is definitely being on the phone with people, but it absolutely SHOULD NOT be what I spend the majority of my time doing. I swear our company is small, but it's getting to the point to which I think we're going to have to have a couple of people hired to act as a sort of "call center" just to take incoming calls for checking claim status and answering basic questions, etc. But again, I don't think that's going to happen, either.

I am so tired and frustrated. I really, really love my job, like seriously love my job, but I am so afraid I'm going to get to the point where I fucking hate it just because I'm so burned out. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up, especially since I'm starting back to school again in the Fall (I stopped last Fall, because I couldn't keep up).

I'm just tired.
