KariLynn Another quick update...
And said just to give people hope that there really ARE people out there (even in government) that will go the extra mile for a person;

The first day on my new job, my new supervisor was wrapping up all the loose ends between the two Human Resources departments with my former and current jobs. He was conferring on the phone and came in and made the comment, "you must have friends in high places, because they've kept you on the books on their payroll. You won't lose any seniority or have any break in service." (In government-speak, this is HUGE.) I was astonished. Delighted, but astonished. Come to find out, the Captain of the Region I worked for went to bat for me and the Chief signed off on it. They didn't have to do that, but the fact that they did speaks volumes to me. *cue mushy sniffling.

Despite the fact that they had to eliminate your job, it's still nice to know that they went the extra mile for you.

I just wish as good an experience for everyone else who gets laid off.

KariLynn Update to my update:

I GOT THE JOB!!!

I start on the 14!

KariLynn Quick update. Haven't been around much lately due to the office closure, visits from out of state family, more tomatoes than I can keep up with, and a bout with The Cold From Hell.

Anyhoo..

I made the initial cut by answering their scenario questions correctly. The first interview was August 17. On the 20th, I got called for a second interview on the 27th.

They'll let me know sometime this week or early of next week whether I got the job or not.

Interesting facts I learned from my boss before my second interview. (He was on my list of references and when they called him, he asked how many people applied for the job.)

For the record: 220 people applied for the job. 63 were given scenarios. Of the 63, 14 people were interviewed. Three people were called back for second interviews.

Keep yer digits crossed, pls & tyvm!! love

DaWezl

I just sent off a resume for a position that would really really really interest me. I'm not sure what it pays, however, which is the only potential down side to it. I am keeping fingers crossed, b/c it sounds like a really great work environment--flexible hours, telecommuting, no corporate dress code. What I wouldn't give to be wearing jeans again!

There is a ray of hope out there...

Last Friday I saw an ad in the newspaper for a job with another state agency, and it's a local job!! And, it's the same classification that I have now!! AND it's not with a sucky agency!! I might get my 20 years in after all!!

With the number of state workers being effected by layoffs, the governor has issued an executive order to all state agencies requiring them to pull from the General Government Transistion Pool (which I'm on) when they're hiring. The only requirement is that the person be qualified for the position. With 19+ years under my belt I doubt they can say I don't qualify!

The job closes today. Keep fingers crossed and kill a chicken for me!!
